ADVENTURE OF A LIFETIME! CLICK HERE!!!

My name is Christopher Smith and I am the Commanding Officer of the Augusta Division of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps. I recently took over command here in Augusta, and I ask all of the current and potential new cadets to please be paient through all of the changes we will be going through this coming year while we work together to strenghthen our unit.
For those of you that are potential new cadets let me give you some background information on our unit. We are a fairly young unit compared to some that are out there. Our unit was flagged in 2000, we started out with a total of five cadets. We have since grown considerably. We now have around twenty five cadets, at any one drill we have around fifteen cadets. This is due to some cadets having jobs, school functions, family plans, other obligations, etc... We have cadets that travel from all over, one as far as 2 1/2 hours away, to be a part of our unit. We take this as a very high compliment!

Our unit stays very active, some examples of the activities we do are learning to breathe on scuba gear in an indoor pool, qualifying on different types of weapons( LASER, 9MM, MP-5, AND 22 RIFLES ) for marksmanship ribbons, rappeling, obstacle courses, confidence courses, annual week long trips to the Marine Corp recruit training base on Parris Island, FTX's (field training exercises that are overnight), helping out annually with the Toys for Tots drive, physical training, land navigation training, participation in the annual Run for the Fallen, and a multitude of classroom training to include leaderships skills, drug awareness and prevention, sexual harrassment, fraternization, how to press your uniforms, shine boots. We learn Naval Knowledge to include military customs and courtesies, drill and ceremony, community service events, team building exercises, weather related survival training. We march in local parades. We stay aboard real Navy ships, and travel to places such as Charleston, Jacksonville, and other Naval historical places. We have family day cookouts, sports day,as well as fun competition every drill weekend!

We have lots of support from every branch of the military service to include our local Army Installation, Active duty Navy personnel, and our Marines at our Reserve Center. We have Air Force that travel and come in to visit when they are not deployed.
